Wedding Photography — Common Questions
Choosing a photographer is a big decision, and it’s normal to have questions. Below are answers to some of the most common ones couples ask — and of course, I’m always happy to talk through anything that’s important to you.
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book 9–18 months in advance, and occasionally even earlier. That said, it’s always worth checking — we sometimes have availability due to date changes or openings.
How long have you been photographing weddings?
We began photographing weddings in 2012 and have documented over 250 weddings together.
Have you photographed weddings similar to ours?
Yes. From intimate backyard celebrations to large black-tie events, we’ve photographed weddings of all sizes, styles, and venues.
How would you describe your photography style?
Our work is rooted in photojournalism — capturing real moments as they unfold — with an artistic, editorial touch. We love natural emotion, thoughtful composition, and a timeless aesthetic with a bit of softness and romance.
How would you describe your working style?
We move fluidly throughout the day — blending in when moments are unfolding naturally and stepping in when guidance is helpful. We’re calm, organized, and confident, and we’ll make sure the day flows smoothly while capturing the moments that matter most.
What sets your work apart?
We believe great wedding photography starts with trust. When couples feel at ease, the images naturally follow. Our approach is calm, observant, and deeply intentional — capturing the in-between moments, the emotion beneath the surface, and the story as it unfolds in a way that feels honest and timeless.
Is all the work on your website yours?
Yes. Every image on our website was photographed by either Scott or myself and edited in-house by me. Nothing is outsourced. Couples are also welcome to view a full wedding gallery upon request.
What equipment do you use?
We use professional, up-to-date camera systems, lenses, and lighting — with full backups on hand.
Do you shoot digital or film?
We photograph weddings primarily in digital to ensure reliability, consistency, and flexibility in any lighting situation.
That said, 35mm film is available by request for an additional fee and can be added selectively for couples who love the look and experience of film.
Do you deliver color and black & white images?
Yes. Images are primarily delivered in color, with select images also presented in black & white where it best serves the moment.
Can we provide a shot list?
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Once booked, you’ll complete a detailed information form that helps us understand what matters most to you.
Do you offer same-day slideshows?
Yes, when timing allows. Same-day slideshows are dependent on the flow of the day and timeline, and we’re happy to discuss whether it’s a good fit for your wedding.
What do you need from us before the wedding?
We’ll guide you through everything. Our planning process and information forms are designed to make the experience smooth and stress-free.
Can we speak with past clients?
Of course. We’re happy to provide references upon request, and we encourage couples to read our reviews on platforms like The Knot.
Who will photograph our wedding?
Most weddings are photographed by us directly. If we’re already booked for your date, we do offer associate coverage with photographers we’ve trained and trust completely. While an associate may photograph the day, all images are edited in-house by Nichole, maintaining the same artistic standards you see throughout our portfolio.
We’re always transparent about coverage options and happy to talk through what feels like the best fit.
Do you have backup equipment and contingency plans?
Yes. We bring full backup equipment, and in the extremely unlikely event of an emergency, we’re part of a trusted professional network. (We’ve never missed a wedding.)
Do you charge travel fees?
Travel within 50 miles of Fredericksburg is included. For destination weddings or extended travel, we’re happy to provide a custom quote.
Do you photograph more than one wedding per day?
No. When you book with us, your wedding day is reserved exclusively for you.
What will you wear?
Professional, appropriate attire — adjusted as needed for the formality of your event.
Can guests take photos during portraits and the ceremony?
We understand that we live in a digital world, and we don’t mind guests taking photos as long as it doesn’t interfere with the moments we’re capturing. Our only request is that guests remain mindful of aisles and sightlines so we can do our job without obstruction. Being present always makes for the best experience — both in the moment and in the photographs
Will you visit the venue in advance?
Venue walkthroughs are available by request for an additional fee. However, our experience allows us to confidently photograph weddings in any environment, and we always arrive prepared to adapt to lighting, weather, and unexpected changes.
How long will you photograph on the wedding day?
Coverage depends on your package and timeline. We’ll help you determine what makes the most sense for your day.
What if the day runs late?
Additional coverage is available at an hourly rate if needed. A day-of coordinator is highly recommended to help keep the timeline on track.
Are engagement sessions included?
Yes. Engagement sessions are included and are a great way for us to get to know each other before the wedding day.
What level of retouching is included?
We provide thoughtful retouching and color correction while keeping everything natural and true to life.
When will we receive our photos?
You can expect a substantial sneak peek shortly after your wedding — perfect for sharing and enjoying while we carefully craft your full gallery. Final images are delivered within 90 days, per our contract.
If a quicker delivery is important to you, expedited editing options are available and can be added upon request.
How does ordering work?
Images are delivered through an online gallery where you can download files and order professional-quality prints. You’re also welcome to print elsewhere, though we recommend professional labs.
Will we receive digital images?
Yes. All edited images are delivered with a print release at no additional cost.
How does booking work?
Once we determine the right package, we’ll send a contract and invoice. A $1,500 retainer reserves your date, with the remaining balance due 30 days before the wedding. Payment plans are available.
What is your cancellation policy?
The retainer is non-refundable, as the date is reserved exclusively for you. Additional details are outlined clearly in the contract.
Do you carry liability insurance?
Yes. Certificates can be provided upon request.
